The Abbey Theatre is a volunteer-run community theatre, converted from a drill hall in 1969 by a group of local Arts enthusiasts. Over the years the programming we offer has expanded and now includes amateur and professional theatre, musical theatre, comedy, music, spoken word and film. The auditorium seats 250 plus 4 wheelchair and carer spaces, and we have a comfortable bar area. Our upstairs rooms are used for rehearsals, meetings and occasionally performances. During 2021 we added an outdoor performance space, The Courtyard, which seats 40 in a café-style environment. Over 35,000 people visit the theatre each year

Whilst many people know that the Abbey Theatre is Nuneaton’s only local theatre fewer realise that the theatre is operated by a Registered Charity, Nuneaton Arts CIO, whose trustees are all volunteers. Without the support of the local community there would be no opportunity to watch live theatre in the town.

Our income comes from grants, donations, hire charges, bar sales and ticket sales for the events we buy in. Being able to meet our costs whilst trying to achieve all our ambitions is a real challenge. Currently this is only made possible through support from individuals, trusts, foundations and corporate sponsorship. If you do wish to donate please contact us at admin@abbeytheatre.co.uk

Nuneaton Arts CIO aims to provide the local community access to arts and entertainment, whilst providing opportunities for learning and improving awareness of the arts. We offer audiences excellent local talent and national touring events.

We also want to provide a deeper understanding of the arts and theatre through various workshops and tours all of which contribute to ensuring that the youth of today realise and enjoy what the arts have to offer. We encourage the public to experience and enjoy the skills of performing, and participate in behind the scenes action by becoming volunteers at The Abbey Theatre.
