Bickerscourt Wellbeing was set up to provide an accessible and inclusive nature and equine assisted wellbeing centre where people of all demographics can connect, heal, and thrive. We are based on a 100 acre farm that has been cared for by 5 generations. Ancient ridge and furrow land, giant oak trees and a herd of 8 shire horses provide the basis for a magical setting where we can change peoples lives.
We look to blend both equine and nature based approaches to provide a tailored program for individual and group needs. Over the course of sessions, the individual growth and learning is focused on increasing confidence, reducing anxiety and developing interpersonal skills.
Being around horses supports healing and growth through a powerful mix of biological, psychological, and social mechanisms. This "human-animal bond" acts as a catalyst for change because animals offer a unique form of interaction that is free from the social pressures often found in human-to-human relationships.
Being in nature is more than just a pleasant escape; it is a scientifically backed method for restoring cognitive and emotional health. The human brain and body evolved in natural environments, and the "mismatch" of modern urban living often leads to chronic stress. Returning to nature triggers several specific healing mechanisms.
